I got the shift I wanted in my class's first shift bid. I'm sure it helped that I wanted weekdays off not any weekend days. I didn't plan it this way but I had made it known that I would like Wed and Thurs off for recurring medical appointments. Then on my last break I had to take a nitro and extend my break. Nitro is not a recreational type drug. You feel like crap for a while but the elephant on you chest wanders off in search of peanuts so its worth it

This is the second time I have tried to use a Green Dot Money Pak to put money into my PayPal account. It had been three days so far. Green Dot says nothing is wrong, PayPal says nothing is wrong so clearly it is designed not to work!
Now comes the adventure of getting a refund. You have been nominated to be honored at the Central City Concern, EAC, End of Year Celebration! Hey, Central City Concern and the Employment Access Center are holding their annual end of year celebration on Wednesday June 29th from 5-7:00 pm. The celebration will be at City Hall; The Mayor, City Commissioners, fellow EACers and Veterans will all be attending. You have been nominated to be recognized at the event due to your personal and/ or professional accomplishments over the past year. There are only 4 female Vets who have been nominated so to represent us it would be amazing if you could plan on being there both for yourself (to receive the recognition) and for the community! PS. Free food :) Congratulations on the nomination and let me know either way! Check out the attached event flyer Julia Eisen-Meyers Women Veteran's Service Specialist Central City Concern Ph: 503-226-7387 X: 213 Cell: 503-889-6424 Fax: 503-226-7921 This is my first Rose Festival since 1969!
Fleet week is next week. Ok, we don't get the really big ships, I see a distroyer and friggate are coming. Whats really cool is there will be some Army ships too. Yes, U.S. Army has their own navy. Quite an extensive one actually. The Air Force used to have a small navy but they oustsourced it. Hey, the Navy has an air force and ground troops. The Army has combat and logistical aircraft and ships. The Air Force has ground combat troops (I was one) and an (oustourced) navy lol. Oh well. I'm looking forward to seeing the boys in uniform! A solemn day of remembering everyone. I have a job! Haven't received my first paycheck yet. So much to catch up on. So many over due bills to make good on! Where to start? I am making a list but more things keep occuring to me. It can be a bit overwhelming.
Job related first tho'. With out the job the rest won't happen. Logic, a wonderful thing. I just wish logic included more want and less need! lol I heard a weird noise outside my fourth floor window so I looked out to see what was going on. The building maintainance crew was lowering a dumpster down the ramp to the basement. The little electric cart was parked on the curb side of the sidewalk and the winch cable stretched across the sidewalk and down to the dumpster. There were new florecent orange cones on the sidwalk to catch people's attention. When I looked I thought, "Those cones are fathrer apart than the sweep of a blind man's cane. A blind person could walk into that cable with no warning at all".
Just then a sighted man texting on his i-ish thing walked right past the briliant florecent orange cones and into the cable and almost fell over. Well, I am living on my own now. Thank goodness for my military service. The VA is getting me back on my feet.
I am in a Substance Abuse Treatment Program for my alcahol consumption. Its working better than I imagined! The new meds stop the craving. I only think about booze when its rubbed in my face. Like every block in Downtown. lol Ok, its not that bad. Central City Concern is bending over backwards to help me with my job hunt. I should be self sufficient in no time! My Primary Care provider told my case worker I can get on estrogen replacement as soon as I get my blood pressure under control. The lack of beer should be helping. Looking forward to that big time. My case worker is pointing out social activities I should try. Since I left Portland in 1969 its a bit different than when I left (ya think!). One cool constant. The Portland weather light is still there. I saw it between the buildings the other day. The light itself has been replaced but its still on top of its pole. I used to go to sleep in Linnton looking toward downtown and watching the usually blinking green light forcasting fair weather with precipitation. The color predicts teperature: red, green, white and blinking means precip. Today was fantastic, if cool, Check out my latest photo on the Photo page. You know what I hate?
Coffee makers that don't work. Ever been to an AA meeting? They guzzle coffee like there is no tomorrow. I drink coffee like there is no tomorrow for similar reasons. Dear sweet Cindy handed me a jar of old instant coffee to hold me over. I'm not being sarcastic. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Well, I am out of unemployment insurance.
“Food Stamps” is helping as far as food but there are other needs like prescriptions, hygiene and clothes that I cannot afford so I have created a Donate page on this site. I'm applying for as many as 15 jobs a day. I am not above begging. |
